September 28, 2025 – 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sacramental Prep

At St. Ann we celebrate the sacraments of 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation every other year.  We are in the process of setting a time this spring for those sacraments. If you have a child who is ready to receive these sacraments please contact the parish office so we can plan for sacramental preparation. We need to submit our request to the bishop’s office by Oct 1.

Welcome Back, Orellana Choir!

We are pleased to announce that the Orellana Choir is returning to the music ministry at St. Ann, and will be providing music for Masses this coming weekend, September 27 & 28.  We would like to welcome them back and thank them for sharing your gift of music with our community once again.

Meatless Potluck – October 4

Join the Creation Care Team and St. Ann parishioners for a meatless potluck to celebrate the end of the Season of Creation and the Feast of St. Francis.  Bring a meatless dish to share along with the recipe so each of us can collect new meatless recipes, as we work to cut back on the amount of meat consumed to care for creation.

Swahili Mass – October 5th

St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month at 9:00 AM.  We invite you to join us for this joyful celebration of Mass.  If you would like to join the offertory procession, you can bring items like toilet paper, paper towels or hand sanitizer for the church and parish house, or coffee and creamer for the Sunday Lunch program. If you are unable to attend on Sunday, you can still enjoy the music of our Swahili Choir at the 4 PM Mass on Saturday. All are welcome!

Rosary for Peace – October 11

Please join us to pray the rosary at 12 noon on October 11 at St. Ann. We will pray for peace in our nation, asking God to save America and our world through the Rosary of his most Holy Mother. Contact the St. Ann office at 509 535-3031 or Denise at 406 498-4811 for more information, or to volunteer to help with the rosary.

Annual Catholic Appeal

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal so far. Your gift on behalf of St. Ann is deeply appreciated. This year our parish has a goal of raising $39,653.00 for the Appeal. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the Annual Catholic Appeal this year, and please mark your donation for St. Ann Spokane so that your donation goes towards our goal. If you did not receive a donation envelope in the mail, we have extra envelopes available in the church.

Salam Maria fundraiser

The book “Salam Maria” – which is “Hail Mary” in Swahili – is available for a $10 donation in the front pew of the church, or in the parish office.  This fundraiser was started by Grace, a member of the Swahili community, and the money raised will go towards helping youth in rural Kenya.  Although the title of the book is in Swahili, the book is in English and is an informative resource for praying the rosary.

Creation Care Corner

“Never has humanity had such power over itself, yet nothing ensures that it will be used wisely, particularly when we consider how it is currently being used…In whose hands does all this power lie, or will it eventually end up?  It is extremely risky for a small part of humanity to have it.”.  Pope Francis, Laudate Deum (23)

About the event:

What do local candidates for office think about climate change? How will it affect your vote in November? To aid citizens in their democratic deliberations, Gonzaga’s Institute for Climate, Water, and the Environment is proud to host the Spokane Candidates Climate Change Forum on the first Wednesday each October.

The Climate Forum has been hosted annually since 2019 and is a non-partisan space where candidates for local office can share with local voters and citizens what they would or would not do or support if elected to office.

Thank you to our event co-sponsors: 350 Spokane, Community Building Foundation, Futurewise Spokane, Inland Northwest Land Conservancy, League of Women Voters, Spokane Riverkeeper, and The Lands Council.

To register and view information on which candidates for Spokane City Council Position 2 and Spokane Valley City Council Positions 1, 4, 5, and 7 have been invited, visit our website.

Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.

Franciscan Corner

When “Sister Death” came to St Francis, he said to his followers:” I have done what was mine to do, may Christ teach you what is yours to do.” For several years I have written short Franciscan reflections in your bulletin. It had been a privilege to share St. Francis with you. You perhaps have called St Francis the patron saint of animals or as a statue for your garden. There is so much more to St Francis and I hope these reflections have deepened your understanding of who St Francis was and is. We will celebrate his feast day on Saturday. I bless you with the words from the Scripture passage found in Numbers 6:24-26, and which St Francis made his own: “May the Lord bless and protect you. May the Lord cast his merciful eyes upon you. May the Lord look toward you and grant you peace. May the Lord bless you. Amen. Amen!”

My time in Spokane is coming to an end. I am in the process of moving to Portland. I will no longer be writing the weekly Franciscan reflections. I have done what was mine to do. May you continue to listen and let Christ teach you what is yours to do–as a member of this parish, as a resident of Spokane, as a citizen of the United States, and as a member of the entire human family.

Pace e Bene!
Sr. Joanne Clavel, osf

A big thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us for so many years.  Best wishes on the move to Portland!
