St. Ann Mini Creation Care Fair – Thank yous!
The Creation Care Team hosted a Mini Creation Care Fair after Mass last Sunday and it was a fun, informative and well attended event. In addition to the displays, music and activities, there was a raffle prize – and the winner was Pierrette W! Thank you to everyone who helped put this fun event together – especially Val C. and Rita W.- and thank you to everyone who attended. There is a detailed description of the event in the Creation Care Corner this week, so be sure to check that out. And below is a photo slideshow of the event.
Swahili Mass – May 3
St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month at our 9:00 AM Mass. Join us for this joyful celebration of Mass on May 3rd – all are welcome! If you would like to be a part of the dancing offertory procession, you are invited to bring items such as paper towels, tissues and hand sanitizer for the church, or snacks and bottled water to share with visitors to the parish house.
Rompa House is Open!
Rompa House assisted living is finally open for business! It took longer than anticipated, but all of the inspections and approvals are finally finished. We look forward to having them as our neighbors when clients start moving in! There are plans for an open house, so keep an eye out for details. For more information we have a few pamphlets and business cards in the entry of the church or you can contact Rompa House at: rompahouse@gmail.com
Thank you to Dignified Workday!
A big thank you to the Dignified Workday crew who worked on our lawn and gardens this week. The grounds look beautiful! The DW crew will be taking care of gardening and lawn care twice a month, and volunteers are invited to help in between.
Creation Care Corner
“…we come together to take charge of this home which has been entrusted to us, knowing that all the good which exists here will be taken up into the heavenly feast.” Laudato Si’ (244)
Children of all ages turned out for St. Ann’s first Creation Care Fair. The weather was radiant; the Magnolia tree was in full bloom, and folks were excited to be outdoors. Many thanks to Rita Waldref, who spearheaded this project, and also brought on board many St. Al’s parishioners who joined our Creation Care Team for this event. The music of Jenny Edgren set the tone of the event beautifully. The bee display was a popular attraction, mesmerizing the young, who tried to spot the queen bee among the drone and worker bees. Everyone wanted to visit the chicken display, too.
Our garden ladies helped give gardening advice. We had many great handouts from two entire tables which were focused on the Spokane Valley Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer and the Spokane River. Some folks didn’t realize the existence of our aquifer, while others were surprised at its size. Coloring books and crayons telling the story of a single drop of water were favored by the little people, who also could take a comic book which encompassed various ways to conserve water. All had the opportunity to create a small garden in a milk jug as well.
A shout out to parishioners who provided gardening tools, planters, vases, gloves, etc. for the giveaways that other parishioners walked away with. We also had a display of alternatives to plastics and more earth friendly TP.
We felt it was a marvelous celebration of Easter, Springtime, and community. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing with us!
