Bell Tower & Plaster Project
We appreciate the work Josh D. has put into organizing and fundraising for the bell tower project already! This weekend, with a group of fellow scouts and volunteers, Josh is beginning to restore St. Ann’s long-silent bell, which has been unusable due to a rotted ceiling, frayed rope, and general disrepair. Beyond just restoring the bell mechanism, Josh also plans to repair and repaint damaged interior walls and ceilings throughout the sanctuary, particularly areas with cracked plaster near the Stations of the Cross and the portico. Thank you to all of you who have donated to make this project possible.
2nd Collection
We normally have the 2nd collection to help those in need in our parish and neighborhood on the 2nd weekend of each month, but we have pushed it to this coming weekend so that it did not conflict with the bell tower collection last weekend. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Salam Maria fundraiser
The book “Salam Maria” – which is “Hail Mary” in Swahili – is available for a $10 donation in the front pew of the church, or in the parish office. Although the title of the book is in Swahili, the book is in English and is an informative resource for praying the rosary. This fundraiser was started by Grace, a member of the Swahili community, and the money raised will go towards helping youth in rural Kenya.
Creation Care Corner
The International Court of Justice – the top court established by the United Nations known also as “the world court” – delivered an advisory opinion saying that nations have an obligation under international law to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are driving climate change, while also affirming a healthy environment is a human right. (This good news was reported in Earthbeat, a publication of National Catholic Reporter.)
It is reported that the twin health hazards of extreme heat and pollution can amplify each other, according to experts Claire Brown and Christina Kelso report.
- Check your meds. Some drugs — including those for allergies, high blood pressure, kidney disease, hypothyroidism and various mental illnesses — make it harder for people to cool down. Others, like diuretics and certain antidepressants, can repress your thirst and cause more frequent urination and sweating. But don’t skip your doses without talking to your doctor.
- Eat to hydrate. Your body gets about 20 percent of its water from food. Raw fruits and vegetables, including cucumbers, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, strawberries and melons, are among the most hydrating foods. Avoid alcohol and limit coffee; they are dehydrating.
- Cool down before you lie down. Temperature is one of the most important factors for getting a good night’s rest, and experts recommend keeping your bedroom at 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. If air-conditioners and fans aren’t doing the trick, you can also take a cold shower, spray your sheets with cold water or put your pillow case in the freezer before bed.
Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.
Franciscan Corner
The journey and the dream:
Go, rebuild my church. What church? The San Damiano chapel where he was? Other dilapidated churches in Assisi? So he thought. But first he had to rebuild himself. The “church” that he was.
” Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God lives in you?” (1Cor 3:16) He was home from war. His spirit was broken. He was lost. What’s my life all about? He had to rebuild his life, he had to find meaning. He did that by thinking about (contemplating, discerning) what he had heard while he put stone upon stone, while the chapel was being rebuilt. His inner self and his outer self mirrored each other. To some extent we all need to rebuild the church–our inner church, that’s ongoing conversion, and the outer church- what in the parish can you help rebuild? the youth program? an organization? an outreach ministry? Like Francis, think about these things, contemplate what is yours to rebuild?
Thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us.
