Save the Date! Mardi Gras at St. Ann – March 1st
It’s a long standing tradition at St. Ann to celebrate Mardi Gras on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday – so mark your calendars for Saturday, March 1st after the 4:00 PM Mass. This will be a free meal, cooked by parishioners from Africa and from New Orleans, and will include karaoke and dancing. All are welcome!
Our hospitality ministry is also looking for volunteers to help put on this fun community event – contact Mark W or Susan L if you are interested in helping.
Saturday Mass Time Change – March 1st
Beginning on March 1st, the Saturday Mass time will change to 4:00 PM. Mass will continue to begin at 4:00 PM until the daylight saving time ends in November.
Swahili Mass – March 2nd
St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month. Join us on March 2nd for this joyful celebration of Mass. If you would like to join in the offertory procession, we invite you to bring items like tissues and hand sanitizer, toiletries for our Sunday Lunch neighbors, or liquid laundry detergent for the Corner Laundry. The Swahili choir also provides music for the first Saturday Mass of each month, with the rest of the Mass in English.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Isabel and Tommy – the two children who were baptized at St. Ann last Sunday – and their parents Oscar & Gexania and Kevin & Megan. Please continue to support these young families and keep them in your prayers.
Bishop Daly at St. Ann – March 16
Save the date – Due to an unexpected conflict the Bishop’s visit to St. Ann has been rescheduled. Bishop Daly will be celebrating Mass at St. Ann on Sunday March 16, at our 9:00 AM Mass.

Creation Care Corner
As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ writing of Laudato Si’, let us pray for his health. He states in his further teaching in Laudate Deum, “Despite all attempts to deny, conceal, gloss over or relativize the issue, the signs of climate change are here and increasingly evident.”
Ways to make your bathroom more sustainable.
More folks are beginning to wonder what ways that they can make their homes more sustainable, given the current realization each day that our environment is
changing due to climate change. If we each put in some effort, it really starts to add up. One place to make simple, but impactful changes at home is in the bathroom.
First of all, it is suggested that we might is consider changing the toilet to an eco-friendly toilet. Apparently, toilets can account for up to a third of water used indoors. A leaky toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water a day. Be sure to replace it with one that has a WaterSense label.
Secondly, consider swapping out the toilet seat for a bidet seat. One of the significant benefits is helping us to reduce our environmental footprint by using less toilet paper. The average American household uses 400 rolls of toilet paper each year, while those with bidets use up to 75% less than that on average. According to Scientific American, we could save 15 million trees a year if we deduced TP usage by 75%. Not to mention the water saved. Just one roll of toilet paper takes 37 gallons of water to produce!
Third, install low-flow showerheads if you haven’t already. According to the EPA, showers account for 17% of all water used in homes. IF the average shower takes eight minutes and uses 16 gallons of water per minute, a family of four is showering away 160 gallons daily. Low-flow showerheads can slash that number to under 2 gallons per minute without one even noticing a change.
Fourth, install low-flow water aerators for your faucets. We can save water at the sink, too. The aerator is a little attachment that’s inside the end of your faucet. Once again, when purchasing, look for the WaterSense label. The difference is huge: you can save up to 30% water usage with just this simple change.

Franciscan Corner
“Make me a channel of your peace”. Called to be a pilgrim of hope. Actions speak louder than words. Is the Gospel just nice stories of long ago? NO! The Gospel is Good News. Jesus commanded us to “go into the whole world and tell the good news.” Jesus came to heal our brokenness. “And behold he is with us until the end of the world”. Being a channel of peace, a pilgrim of hope is ongoing. St Francis at the end of his life said ” the Lord taught me what was mine to do, may He teach you what is yours” are we listening?
Thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us!
