March 2, 2025 – 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Saturday Mass Time Change – March 1st

Beginning on March 1st, the Saturday Mass time will change to 4:00 PM.   Mass will continue to begin at 4:00 PM until the daylight saving time ends in November.

Mardi Gras at St. Ann – March 1st

Join us to celebrate Mardi Gras this Saturday, March 1st after the 4:00 PM Mass. This is a free event – with a meal cooked by parishioners from Africa and from New Orleans, karaoke and music for dancing. All are welcome!

If you would like to help decorate the hall, we’ll be meeting at 5:00 PM on Friday, February 28.  This is a good chance to visit with other parishioners and enjoy some pizza and beverages while we work.  We will also need some help cleaning up after Mardi Gras on Saturday evening.  Contact Mark W. or Susan L. if you’d like to volunteer – or just show up to help.

Swahili Mass – March 2nd

St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month.  Join us this Sunday, March 2nd, for this joyful celebration of Mass. If you would like to join in the offertory procession, we invite you to bring items like tissues and hand sanitizer, toiletries for our Sunday Lunch neighbors, or liquid laundry detergent for the Corner Laundry.  The Swahili choir also provides music for the first Saturday Mass of each month, with the rest of the Mass in English.

Immigration Ministry Meeting – March 2nd

A group of Parish Council members and parishioners are creating a new Ministry, tentatively titled the Immigration Ministry.  This group will meet on Sunday March 2nd after the 9:00 AM Mass in the parish house to discuss ideas of how to support our vulnerable communities and ways to partner with other groups.

Daylight Saving Time Begins – March 9th

Daylight Saving Time begins on March 9th.  Remember to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed the night before!

Sunday Zoom Prayer Service Time Change – March 9th

On March 9th, the Sunday Zoom prayer service time will change back to 7:00 PM, to give people more time to enjoy the daylight in the spring and summer.  The Zoom link is included below the calendar in the email version of the virtual bulletin each week.  If you are interested in being added to the email list for the Zoom prayer service, contact the parish office.

Safety & Security at St. Ann

Due to concerns about safety and security at St. Ann, the staff has decided to change the door codes for the buildings on our campus.  The new safety policy is that only staff will have the codes for the church and parish house. Please contact Elizabeth or Dianne to arrange entry into these spaces for meetings, etc.

Bishop Daly at St. Ann – March 16

Bishop Daly will be celebrating Mass at St. Ann on Sunday March 16, at our 9:00 AM Mass.

Creation Care Corner

Please hold Pope Francis in your prayers.

There is a lot…a lot of eco-anxiety in our country today.  We’ve written about it before.  We’re talking today about a Climate Cafe.  This is a place where people gather to talk nor so much about climate action, but rather to provide a space where people may feel, process and share emotions related to the climate crisis.  One would aim to provide supportive community and accompaniment, not solutions.  At a climate cafe, it’s important to hold space for any and all emotions (it not just anxiety that people feel when it comes to the state of our world) and not to assume everyone is having the same experience.

350 Spokane offers an Eco-Anxiety Cafe each 1st Saturday of the month.  The upcoming one is this Saturday, March 1st from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd.  Spokane, WA, 99203

Action:  With better weather take a walk around the yard or a nearby park.  See what you can find.  The earth is waking up from its winter sleep.  You might discover, even there, life so incredible and extraordinary as to take your breath away.

Franciscan Corner

“Make me a channel of your peace… where there’s despair in life let me bring hope…”  Francis was always about spreading hope. He worked with the lepers, he traveled to the nearby villages spreading the word of God. Lent is here again and we will “give up” something. Francis would sing: Change our hearts this time, your word says it can be… Instead of giving up, let’s give to those who are suffering, those who have lost hope. What can you do? What action will you commit to be that “pilgrim of hope’ this Lent?

Thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us!
