Prayer Request for Hector
We ask that you continue to pray for our parishioner Hector G. who has been an active member of our community for years. He was picked up and detained by ICE, in spite of having a work permit and an asylum case. He is currently being held at the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center. He has been able to make a few brief phone calls, and there are several people working to contact his lawyer and to arrange for some sisters and a pastor in Tacoma to visit him. His court date is set for October 28th. We pray that his lawyer is able to represent him in court, and that he will be released and returned home to us.

Creation Care Corner
“We know that technology based on the use of highly polluting fossil fuels – especially coal, but also oil and, to a lesser degree, gas – needs to be progressively replaced without delay.” Laudato Si’ (165)
Ember is an independent energy think tank that uses data-driven insights to shift the world towards a clean, electrified energy system. It was founded in 2008 as Sandbag to reform the EU carbon market. In 2020, it was rebranded as Ember. It gathers, curates and analyses data on the global energy system. Last week Susanna Twidale, writing for the London news organization REUTERS, wrote that the Ember Climate Think Tank claimed that global renewable power overtakes coal for the first time! Renewable energy sources generated more electricity than coal for the first time in the first half of 2025, driven by rapid growth in China and India. Curbing coal power generation, which emits around double the amount of carbon dioxide as gas generation, is regarded as vital by most scientists to meet global climate targets. A senior electricity analyst at Ember stated, “We are seeing the first signs of a crucial turning point.” Ember also reported that the shift to renewables was driven largely by China and India.
This is great news! It gives us hope in the face of the challenges of global warming. As we transition from a hot summer to what is predicted to be a fairly hard winter in the Northwest, let us be mindful to do all that we can do in our homes and lifestyles to be wise about reducing our energy usage. A further action that we recommend is to write to your legislators. The United States is falling far behind in their global commitment to help reduce greenhouse gasses. We must realize that we, as citizens, have the power of the pen!
Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.
