November 1 & 2, 2025 – All Saints and All Souls Days

Prayer Request for Hector

Thanks to everyone who supported the bake sale to benefit Hector last Sunday, our youth were able to raise almost $700 for Hector Garcia, our parishioner who has been detained in the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center for the past few weeks. We ask for continued prayers for Hector. He had a court date on Tuesday but his lawyer wasn’t in court to represent him, so he was given a two week extension. However on Wednesday,  he was told he will be transferred out of state in the middle of the night, but was not told where.  Please pray for justice for Hector.

November Remembrances

In November we remember those who have gone before us into New Life. At each of the Masses and the Zoom prayer service through the month of November, we will read the names of our loved ones who have passed during the prayers of the faithful. There is also a binder filled with photos of our loved ones who have passed in the back of the church by the candles.  If you have new names you would like us to read, you can add them to a sheet in the front pew of the church, or email the parish office at info@stannsspokane.org.

Daylight Saving Time Ends – November 2

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 2nd.  Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour before bed on Saturday night as we make the change to standard time.  This also means that our Saturday Mass time will change to 3:00 PM beginning on November 8th.

Swahili Mass – November 2

St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month at our 9:00 PM Mass.  If you’re unable to attend on Sunday, you can still enjoy music by the Swahili choir at our 4:00 PM Saturday Mass.  If you would like to bring an item for the offertory procession on Sunday, the Matthew 25 Ministry is looking for donations of personal hygiene products for one of the families they are helping. Other items that are useful for church use are toilet paper, paper towels, or snacks and bottled water for visitors to the parish house.

Safe Environment Training

All volunteers and parishioners who work with children are required by the Diocese of  Spokane to take part in Safe Environment training. We have instructions available for how to sign in to the new system the diocese is using, or to create a new account if you are doing the training for the first time. You can contact the parish office or our safe environment coordinator for more information.

2025-26 Sunday Missals

The new Sunday Missals for 2025-26 are now available, with a suggested donation of $5.00 to help cover the cost. You can pick one up in the front pew of the church, or from the parish office.

2026 Calendars

Thanks to the generosity of Holy Cross Cemetery, our parish has been gifted calendars again this year.  The 2026 calendars are free and have our parish contact information printed on them. They are available in the front pew and in the entry of the church, so please pick one up next time you come to St. Ann.

Annual Catholic Appeal

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal so far. This year our parish goal is $39,653.00. As of October 30, we have raised $30,560.00, which is 77.07% of our goal.

Please prayerfully consider how you can support St. Ann to reach our ACA goal this year, and be sure to mark your donation for St. Ann Spokane so that your donation goes towards our goal.

Letter from Abdullah

We have received a message from Abdullah, the Palestinian student whose education to become a doctor St. Ann has been helping with for the past two years, thanks to generous donations.

To my wonderful and kind-hearted Community of Saint Ann

In our culture, calling someone “the crown of my head / Taj Rassi” is a way of showing the highest respect and love. It means you are sacred to me — symbols of kindness, generosity, and heartfelt care. You’re the Crown of my head.

Every time I try to write to you, words fall short. I can never fully express how grateful I am. you have made me feel seen , valued, and supported – and that feeling has lifted such a heavy burden off my heart.

I love you and thank you from the bottom of my heart — you are truly the Crown of my head. Your kindness and care over the past two years have made my university journey lighter, brighter, and full of meaning. I’ll always carry your warmth and encouragement with me, wherever life takes me next.

With love and endless gratitude

Faithfully,

 Abdullah

Salam Maria fundraiser

The book “Salam Maria” – which is “Hail Mary” in Swahili – is available in the front pew of the church, or in the parish office, for a suggested $10 donation  The money from this fundraiser will go towards helping youth in rural Kenya.  Although the title of the book is in Swahili, the book is in English and is an informative resource for praying the rosary.

Donations may be made in cash or by check, or paid online (and picked up in person):  https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/salam-maria-book-fundraiser

Creation Care Corner

“…the deterioration of the environment and of the society affects the most vulnerable people on the planet: Both everyday experience and scientific research show that the gravest effects of all attacks on the environment are suffered by the poorest.”  Laudato Si’ (48)

As we move into November and more darkness, there is often more time for some of us to contemplate,  Our thoughts also turn toward Thanksgiving. We have experienced a beautiful autumn with days nice enough to get outside, to walk amidst the grandeur of the colors, to breathe in the fresh, crisp air, to harvest our produce, to play in the leaves, to prepare our flower-beds for winter. Let us give thanks. This year we have been relatively unscathed by the effects of climate change. Not so just off of our East Coast.  The warmest waters ever in the Caribbean have contributed to the spawning of the largest hurricane, Melissa, ever experienced by the island of Jamaica. As this is being written, the extent of the devastation is yet unknown due to the loss of infrastructure to report. But it is known that its path of destruction will continue across Cuba and beyond to other islands, Haiti being one of them. The populations on these islands, many of them poor, have had little to do with the causes of global warming. Yet they suffer the most.

As our thoughts turn to thanks for the many blessings we have, may we remember our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean and throughout the world who suffer due to the effects of global warming.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all Creation,

The waves and wind still know your name.
We pray for protection, for lives to be spared.
God of miracles, calm the skies and still the waters.
Comfort those who are afraid, mourning and displaced.

Be their refuge and strength.

We lift up the rescue and relief teams in the region — protect and provide for them as they serve.

May our country, and other countries offer aid.

And Lord, may your church rise up with compassion — to bring hope and light.

Amen.

Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.
