Youth Ministry Program News
School is out and our Children’s Liturgy program that takes place during the 9:00 AM Sunday Mass is taking a break for the summer. Thank you so much to Robbie for all his work putting this program together for our youth to learn about our faith during Mass and for creating such a lively community that allows for our young people to grow in friendship. We also appreciate the parent and grandparent volunteers who took turns helping out. We look forward to Children’s Liturgy starting up again in the fall!
Swahili Mass – July 6
St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the 1st Sunday of each month. Please join us for this joyful celebration of Mass on July 6th at 9:00 AM. The Swahili choir also provides music for the Saturday Mass that weekend. If you would like to join the offertory procession on Sunday, you are invited to bring items such as paper towels, water bottles and snacks for the parish house, or kleenex and hand sanitizer for the church.
Community Wine Tasting
The once a month community wine tasting is this Saturday after the 4:00 PM Mass. Join us for wine and conversation, and Dianne sharing her knowledge about new wines – and bring a snack to share if you’d like.
Front Porch Concrete Project
We have reached our goal for the front porch project! Thank you so much to all those who donated. Stay tuned for news of when the work will begin.
Reminder about Scheduling Meetings
The parish staff appreciates all the wonderful work all the various ministries are doing at St. Ann, and would like to remind members of our ministries and committees to please contact the office to schedule meeting times in the house, the church and parish hall. This allows us to ensure that the space your group would like to use is available, as well as to arrange for a staff member to open up the meeting space for your group in a timely manner. We appreciate your understanding and collaboration as we work to balance safety with accommodating the community use of the house, church and hall for parish groups.
Security Gates
There are new coded locks on the security gates at the front and back of the church. The locks were added to make the grounds more secure, especially at night. The gates will be open during office hours, during Mass and for parish events, but please contact a staff member if you need help with access to the grounds at other times.
Seminarian Formation Appeal – June 14-15
On June 9th, Bishop Daly sent a letter to all parishioners regarding this year’s Seminarian Formation Appeal beginning this weekend, along with a donation envelope. If you would like to donate but did not receive this letter and donation envelope, we have extra envelopes in the entry of the church.
Creation Care Corner
“The next phase in the life of Laudato Si’ will not be defined by its author, Pope Francis, but instead will rely on others across the Catholic church including Pope Leo XIV.”. Brian Rowe, NCR
A few ways to reduce your consumption of microplastics:
CHOOSE TAP WATER, NOT BOTTLED WATER: A recent study found that consumers who drank bottled water instead of tap water ingested substantially more microplastics every year. People who drink beverages in plastic packaging are also more likely to have higher levels of microplastics, so it would be wise to also avoid such beverages when possible.
DON’T MICROWAVE PLASTIC: Scientists have found that heating food in plastic packaging and/or containers releases plastic particles and harmful plastic chemicals into food. Instead, transfer food out of plastic packaging and containers into glass or ceramic serving ware prior to microwaving.
RETHINK YOUR PLASTIC KITCHENWARE: Studies show that many kinds of plastic kitchenware introduce microplastics into food, including plastic cutting boards, bowls, blenders, electric kettles, and sponges. Food cut on bamboo cutting boards or water mixed in glass bowls or containers, on the other hand, did not contain microplastics. Kitchenware alternatives include stainless steel, glass, ceramic, bamboo and stoneware. For cleaning, consider non-plastic sponges, steel wool scrubbers, and dish brushes with non-plastic bristles.
Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.
Franciscan Corner
“Make me a channel of your peace…. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope…” Francis of Assisi was a great peacemaker. He started by recognizing that peace is never simply a human achievement, it always depends on God. Yet, God does not impose it on us, but always gives us freedom to choose the way of peace. God is love, God is also peace. Let us choose peace then, and pray that we may be channels of peace—of that peace the world cannot give. Lord, make me a channel of YOUR peace…”
Thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us.
