Update on Hector
Thank you for your prayers & support for Hector G. It was a joy to welcome him home to St. Ann last Sunday. There is still more work to do to help Hector, but his first hearing this week went well; he has work authorization and can get his drivers license back. Great news!

Hector welcomed back to St. Ann on Sunday, December 14
St. Ann Christmas Concert – December 21
Please join us on Sunday, December 21st for a Christmas concert at St. Ann, featuring beautiful music from all 3 of our St. Ann choirs! The evening will begin at 6:30 PM with a reception in the hall before the concert at 7:00 PM, followed by a return to the hall after the concert for dessert. This is a free community event to thank our parishioners for all you have given to St. Ann this year. We look forward to celebrating together and give thanks for everyone who has volunteered to help make the concert happen.
Help Needed: Decorating the Church for Christmas
Parishioners are invited to stay after Mass on December 21st to help decorate the church for Christmas. We will also be decorating the parish hall on Saturday December 20th, to make the hall festive for the Sunday Lunch Program’s Christmas meal and the Christmas Concert reception. Email communityofstann@gmail.com if you are available to help decorate the hall on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM.
The Longest Night Zoom Prayer Service – December 22nd.
There will be a prayer service on Zoom for “The Longest Night” at 7:00 PM on Monday, December 22nd. The Longest Night service is a powerful prayer service that focuses on acknowledging the pain and hurt many experience, in the midst of the joy and expectation during this season, and is scheduled around the winter solstice. Contact the office at communityofstann@gmail.com if you need the Zoom link.
(Please note: There will not be a Zoom prayer service on Sunday December 21st, in order to allow people to attend the St. Ann Christmas Concert.)
St. Ann Christmas Video
Back in 2020 when we were unable to all celebrate Christmas together, some of our parishioners and our musicians put together a video with music, prayers and photos to watch & listen to on Christmas Eve. Here is the link if you would like to watch it again this Christmas season.

Creation Care Corner
“…When we speak of “sustainable use,” consideration must always be given to each ecosystem’s regenerative ability in its different areas and aspects.” Laudato Si’ (140)
This feels like a Christmas tree story but is so much more. We found this story in the Spokesman-Review several days ago and thought maybe only eco-nerds like us may have read it. Apparently, in Pierce County, in the small city of Roy, Washington, inside a non-descript building, machines are running, and it smells like Christmas! It is a tree-seed bank where millions of conifer seeds are carefully removed from cones and sorted into large barrels. About 5,000 pounds of seeds are collected every year in the spring and summer by those who work for this company, Silvaseed. And every year 6 to 10 million seedlings are sprouted in the surrounding field and in five acres of greenhouses on site.
In the 1990s in Washington, wildfires burned about 86,000 acres annually. By the 2000s that number had increased to 189,000 acres. In 2021, 812,000 acres were burned. Natural reseeding is no longer enough since the devastation in our forests is so huge due to drought and global warming. The seeds and seedlings that come from this huge effort are sold to timber companies, tribes, and public and private landowners by Mast Reforestation, the parent company of Silvaseed. To fund this costly restoration, Mast Reforestation leverages the credits that tech companies, shipping companies and airlines pay to offset their carbon footprints. Individuals can buy these offsets, too. Try it next time you fly somewhere. The airline will work out the cost for you.
Such good news. Merry Christmas!
Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.
