August 31, 2025 – 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Prayers for the Annunciation Church and School in Minneapolis

We, the Catholic Community of Saint Ann in the Spokane Diocese, Washington State, stand united in prayer and support for the Annunciation Church and School in Minneapolis. We offer our prayers and condolences to the families of Annunciation Church and School in Minneapolis, in response to the tragedy that occurred at the church on Wednesday. We will have cards available at Mass for parishioners to sign, a tangible symbol of our unity in their grief and mourning.

Swahili Mass – September 7th

St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month.  Join us for this joyful celebration of Mass on September 7th at 9:00 AM. If you are unable to attend on Sunday, you can still enjoy the music of our Swahili choir at the Saturday Mass. If you would like to join the offertory procession, you are invited to bring items such as coffee for Sunday Lunch, water bottles, paper towels, and tissues for parish use.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Marie and Eric who were married at St. Ann last Saturday!  It was a beautiful celebration of love and community.  Many blessings to Marie and Eric as they begin a new life together.

Bell Tower Project

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the work of cleaning out and replacing the ceiling of the bell tower. Below are some more photos of the work being completed on the bell tower project. We look forward to hearing the beautiful sound of the St. Ann bell ringing very soon!

Annual Catholic Appeal begins September 6-7

Over the next few weeks, the parish will be promoting this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. The Annual Catholic Appeal supports the Ministry of Bishop Daly and the important work of the Diocese of Spokane. This year our parish has a goal of raising $39,653.00 for the Appeal. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the Annual Catholic Appeal this year.

Salam Maria fundraiser

The book “Salam Maria” – which is “Hail Mary” in Swahili – is available for a $10 donation in the front pew of the church, or in the parish office.  This fundraiser was started by Grace, a member of the Swahili community, and the money raised will go towards helping youth in rural Kenya.  Although the title of the book is in Swahili, the book is in English and is an informative resource for praying the rosary.

Creation Care Corner

As Pope Francis reminded us during the Jubilee of Volunteering: “In the deserts of poverty and loneliness, all those small gestures are helping to make a new humanity blossom in the garden that is God’s dream, always and everywhere, for all of us.”  Pope Francis during the Jubilee of Volunteering

Once again, we come together as a global family to celebrate the Season of Creation 2025—a time of deep prayer, action, and advocacy to care for our common home. From September 1, the World Day of Prayer for Creation, to October 4, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, we will unite in hope and commitment to restore peace with Creation.

2025 Theme: Peace with Creation  (The theme is rooted in Isaiah 32:14-18:)

14 Because the palaces will be forsaken,

the bustling city will be deserted.

The forts and towers will become lairs forever,

a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks—

15 Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,

And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,

And the fruitful field is counted as a forest.

16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness,

And righteousness remain in the fruitful field.

17 The work of righteousness will be peace,

And the effect of righteousness,

quietness and assurance forever.

18 My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation,

In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.

Isaiah paints a stark image of a world wounded by human injustice, a creation crying out for peace. This vision resonates deeply with us: our planet is suffering, and yet, we believe in the promise of renewal and restoration. Our call is to be active agents of change—praying, acting, and transforming our way of living in communion with creation and the Creator.

Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.

Franciscan Corner

The Journey and the Dream

“Go, rebuild my church”. Francis, go!  Don’t stand here.  Get going.

Reminds me of the apostles after Jesus ascended into heaven.  The angels said to them:   “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky?” (Acts 1:11)  They returned to Jerusalem, to the upper room and remained there in prayer as they were directed, waiting for the Holy Spirit and then they acted!   Francis spent lots of time in prayer, he knew he needed to be in contact with this God who had told him to go and rebuild the church. But then he acted!   So with us, we need to be in constant contact with Jesus whom we follow. We bear his name: Christians.   We received that name when we were baptized.  Let’s not stand around, let’s get to work, rebuild the church, which ever definition of church you identify with at this moment: yourself, as a temple of the Holy Spirit, the church that is your parish by participating in some action the parish is engaged in, or the larger church, as we celebrate this jubilee year, by being a pilgrim of hope.  There’s lots to do, let’s get going!

Thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us.
