Congratulations to St. Ann Graduates!
Last weekend we invited graduates to come forward for a blessing at the end of Mass. Congratulations to our youth on their promotion to or graduation from high school – and to our college graduates – especially Sonia M, Fr. Roy S. and Fr. Max M. We also send congratulations to former parishioner Ciara H-M who graduated from college in Vermont this spring!
We Belong Campaign – June 27 at 4:00 – 5:30 PM
Join the We Belong Campaign for a meeting on Friday, June 27 at 4:00 PM-5:30 PM at the Hillyard library at 4110 N Cook St. Spokane WA 99207 . The We Belong Campaign is a call to action and a call for unity, to end bullying of immigrants in Spokane area schools. They are looking for support to educate teachers, parents and students about the impact of bullying and to push for policies that protect every child.
See the flyer and message from We Belong below for more information.
Seminarian Formation Appeal – June 14-15
On June 9th, Bishop Daly sent a letter to all parishioners regarding this year’s Seminarian Formation Appeal beginning this weekend, along with a donation envelope. If you would like to donate but did not receive this letter and donation envelope, we have extra envelopes in the entry of the church.
Reminder about Scheduling Meetings
The parish staff would like to remind members of our various ministries and committees at St. Ann to please contact the office to schedule meeting times in the house, the church and parish hall. This allows us to ensure that the space your group would like to use is available, as well as to arrange for a staff member to open up the meeting space for your group in a timely manner, as needed. We appreciate your understanding and collaboration as we work to balance safety with accommodating the community use of the house, church and hall for all of the wonderful work each ministry is doing for St. Ann.
Security Gates
If you’ve been to Mass the last couple of weekends, you probably noticed the new coded locks on the security gates at the front and back of the church. The locks were added to make the grounds more secure, especially at night. The gates will be open during office hours , during Mass and for parish events, but please contact a staff member if you need help with access to the grounds at other times.
Concrete Project
Thank you to all those who have donated to our project to fix the front porch steps of the church! We have contacted the concrete contractor and should know soon when the work will begin. Thank you again to all of you who have donated to this project.
Creation Care Corner
Beginning of a talk by Pope Francis in 2013 (two years before he wrote “Laudato Si’) on World Environment day: “When we talk about the environment, about creation, my thoughts go to the first pages of the Bible, to the Book of Genesis, where it says that God puts men and women on the earth to till it and keep it.”
Reminders for Summertime with economic and ecological benefits:
- Close the Blinds: Sunlight pouring in through windows can heat up your home. Close your blinds during the day to keep the hot sun out. Insulated blinds can block up to 65% of the sun’s heat.
- Use Ceiling Fans: On average, fans use just 1% of the energy that air conditioners use. Plus, they keep air moving around your room to help you feel cooler.
- Use Small Cooking Appliances or grill: Use countertop appliances like your microwave or air fryer to save energy and avoid heating up your kitchen. Even better, grill outside.
- Turn Off Lights: If you haven’t switched to LEDs yet, now is the time. Non-LEDs can produce a lot of heat. And no matter what kind of lights you have, turn them off when you’re not using them to save energy.
- Keep Air Filters Clean: If your home has central air conditioning, check the filter. Clean filters help the system run efficiently and improve indoor air quality. Sign up for our Furnace Filter Reminder Program and we’ll notify you when it’s time to replace your filter, too.
- Plant Trees: If you have a yard, plant trees or shrubs to provide shade along south-facing windows. They’ll block the sun and help cool your home. Remember to call 811 before you dig.
Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing these reflections with us.
Franciscan Corner
“Make me a channel of your peace…. Peace is a gift from God. Human actions promote peace in the world. In 1986, Pope St John Paul II invited leaders of the world religions to come to Assisi to pray and fast for the sake of world peace. The Pope called all present and everyone of good will to be “artisans of peace.” St Francis certainly was an artesian of peace. “Peace be with you” echoed from Jesus’ life through the life of St Francis, and now through Pope Leo XIV. Let it echo through your life as well. Let us pray: Lord, make me a channel of your peace”
