November 30, 2025 – 1st Sunday of Advent

Advent Theme

This year the theme for Advent that the Liturgy Committee has chosen is “Waiting with Patience and Purpose.”  Join us in this season of waiting as we pray together with patience and purpose.

Ministry Fair – November 30

The Parish Council will be hosting a Ministry Fair in the parish house after Mass on November 30th. If you are interested in learning about the many different ministries happening at St. Ann, this is a great opportunity to speak with the leaders of each group and find out how to get involved.

St. Ann Youth Ministry – Christmas Eve Program

The St. Ann youth will be leading us in prayer with a special program before the Christmas Eve Mass. If your child is interested in participating, sign-ups will begin this weekend.  There will be rehearsals after Sunday Masses during December and a final rehearsal on December 23rd. For more information contact our youth ministry leaders, Robbie and Hannah.

Swahili Mass – December 7

St. Ann celebrates Mass in Swahili on the first Sunday of each month. Join us on December 7th for this joyful celebration of Mass. If you are unable to attend on Sunday, you can still enjoy the Swahili choir’s music on Saturday at the 3:00 PM Mass.  If you would like to bring something for the offertory procession, items like water bottles, toilet paper, hand sanitizer and snacks for visitors to the house are helpful.

Advent Reconciliation Service – December 7

The Advent Reconciliation Service will be held after Mass on Sunday, December 7th at 11:00 AM.  Fr. Max will lead the service, and several priests will be available to hear confession at the end of the service.

St. Ann Christmas Concert – December 21

Mark your calendars for the evening of Sunday, December 21st for a Christmas concert at St. Ann, featuring beautiful music from all of our St. Ann choirs!  The concert will be at St. Ann – with a reception in the hall before and after, and the concert in the church. This is a free community event to thank everyone for all that you’ve given to the parish this year – but we will need volunteers to help make it happen. There are lots of opportunities to help – from cleaning and decorating the church and hall, to helping serve at the reception. The first opportunity is on December 6 at 10 AM, when we’ll need about 6 people to help dust and clean pews and surfaces in the church. Sign up sheets are available in the front pew after Mass!

Catholic Charities Christmas Collection

Catholic Charities is asking for support for their annual Christmas Collection in order to support their work to “Feed the Hungry, Heal the Hurting and Welcome the Stranger.” This year instead of donation envelopes, there are cards and posters in the entry of the church with a QR code to use to make your donation, to save on the cost of postage. Or you can use the donation link below.

Annual Catholic Appeal update

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal so far. As of November 26th, we have raised $34,135.00, which is 86.06% of our goal of $39,653.00.  If you would like to make a donation to help St. Ann reach our goal, there are donation envelopes next to the bulletins and a link to the online giving page on our website:  https://stannsspokane.org/giving/

2025-26 Sunday Missals

The new Sunday Missals for 2025-26 are now available, with a suggested donation of $5.00 to help cover the cost. You can pick one up in the front pew of the church, or from the parish office.

2026 Calendars

Thanks to the generosity of Holy Cross Cemetery, our parish has been gifted calendars again this year.  The 2026 calendars are free and have our parish contact information printed on them. They are available in the front pew and in the entry of the church, so please pick one up next time you come to St. Ann.

Creation Care Corner

“Everything is in some way sacramental. All depends on the receptiveness and openness of our hearts.”

—John Chryssavgis, “The World of the Icon and Creation”

Fr. Richard Rohr, OFM shared in a recent reflection a quote from the author below in her book “Earthbound: God at the Intersection of Climate and Justice.”

Theologian Grace Ji-Sun Kim describes how water, used in the sacrament of baptism, connects us to God and all life.

“Christians have a spiritual relationship with water.  In the sacrament of baptism, water is necessary. As an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace, baptism marks how one becomes part of the family of God…

Baptismal actions show a deeper understanding of who God is and how God connects with us in each and every day through water all around us…God uses the waters of baptism to weave our whole selves into God’s own life, in gracious love and mercy.  Baptism reminds us of water’s vitality for our world and teaches us to seek its lifegiving, cleansing, and refreshing gift.  Water is essential for life on Earth and in the “kin-dom” of God…

The sacrament of baptism becomes a symbol that all water is sacred, not just the water present in the baptismal font.  Because it is sacred, we need to honor water, take care of water, and treat it with holiness, reverence, and love.  Through the baptismal waters we begin a faith journey that awakens us to the beauty of Earth and all of God’s creation.  We learn that we human beings belong to a community connected to one another through water.  We are all made of water and sustained by water.  The waters of baptism run through creeks, lakes, rivers, and oceans of the world, providing life to all living things.  Baptism connects Christians to all living things in water’s cleansing flow.”
