Congratulations to the St. Ann Catholic Women Association on the celebration last Sunday at Mass for their commissioning as the first CWA chapter in the Spokane Diocese. It was a joyful celebration and we thank the CWA for sharing this special celebration with our community.  We look forward to seeing the work and gifts shared with us by all of the CWA members in our parish.  (If you are interested in learning more about this group, the CWA meets after Mass on the first Sunday of each month.)

Message from the St. Ann Staff

The staff met this week and agreed that we owe the parish an apology.  We acknowledge that we may not have adequately prepared parishioners for Sunday’s Mass running longer than expected.  We recognize that parishioners might have other obligations and commitments, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.  We appreciate your understanding and patience, and we will strive to improve our communication in the future.

St. Ann Youth News

Our Youth Liturgy program during the Sunday Mass is taking a break for the summer, however the St. Ann Youth will be serving Sunday Lunch on July 12.  If your middle school or high school child is interested in serving, please sign up after Mass. For more details, contact Robbie or Hannah or the parish office.

Thank you, Avista!

We thank Avista  for coming to St. Ann last week to highlight all the wonderful changes we were able to make to  our Parish Hall. Avista is creating a video about the Named Communities Investment Fund award that benefited St. Ann with all the work to our Parish hall – replacing the windows and HVAC system, as well as the washers and dryers for the Corner Laundry project. Last week they interviewed Father Patrick and did some filming at Mass.  We hope to schedule another time for the film crew to come back to get footage of the Corner Laundry and Sunday Lunch program in action. 

Freedom at the Arboretum – July 4

The Westbrook family invites the St. Ann community to join them on Saturday, July 4th for Freedom at the Arboretum.  A free concert featuring St. Ann parishioner Ryan C.  begins at noon and the program begins at 1:15. Bring a picnic and chairs and enjoy visiting with neighbors in the shade by the Woodland building.  Finch Arboretum is at 3404 W Woodland Blvd.  Contact Mark W. for more details at Mark@Wbrook.org.

Support Farmers Markets. Part II  

In Catholic Tradition, eating is a moral act. We are called to approach food with reverence. We  are also challenged to consider how food choices impact others, creation and our relationship  with God.  

Pope Benedict’s encyclical Caritas in Veritate reminds us that food systems should prioritize  human dignity over profit. Pope Francis, in Laudato Si, calls for a “culture of care” that  recognizes the interconnectedness and sacredness of all God’s creation.  

Continuing the reflection from the June 7 bulletin… 

When we support Farmers Markets, we:  

6. Protect the Environment. Food travels an average of 1,500 miles to get to your plate.   This shipping uses fossil fuels, contributes to pollution and creates trash with extra   packaging. Food at the Farmers Market is transported shorter distances and is generally  grown more sustainably, thus minimizes the impact on our sacred earth. 
7. Discover Variety. At the Farmers Market, you can find an amazing array of produce that   you won’t see at the average supermarket. Examples: a rainbow of heirloom tomatoes, red   carrots, purple cauliflower, watermelon radishes, quail eggs and much more.  
8. Connect with Community. The Farmers Market is a community hub—a place to stroll   and shop outdoors, a place to meet up with friends, to bring children and   grandchildren, often with live music and food trucks. 
9. Experience JOY while shopping—knowing that you are supporting local farmers,   purchasing fresh foods, protecting the environment, and providing healthy food for your   family.

Who grew it?

St Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish-Spokane 

“The Shack” is a profound way of revealing the unconditional love of God. Mackenzie “Mack” (Sam Worthington) has an encounter with the Holy Trinity at a shack following the death of his beloved daughter. The movie is heart wrenching at times, but it reveals the compassion and mercy of God even during great grief and sorrow. The themes are: forgiveness, compassion, and closure. 

St. Ann Safety Reminder 

To ensure children’s safety, adults must accompany all children to the restroom in the parish hall during Mass. The restroom key has been moved to the west side door of the church for easier access. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
