Dignified Workday – Donations Needed

Dignified Workday has benefitted from our donated items in the past. Currently small basic appliances and kitchen tools are needed for their employees who are joining the workforce and gaining housing. If you have usable items to donate for these new households please contact Tresa or Susan (509 995-2542) for easy drop off directions near the church.

Below is a link to an article in the Fig Tree about Dignified Workday and its connection to St. Ann, as well as the start of the Corner Laundry.

World Missions Collection

Last weekend kicked off the World Missions Collection for the Spokane diocese.  Each year Bishop Daly invites the faithful in our diocese to support the work and service of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve the world’s most vulnerable communities.  Mission is at the heart of our Catholic faith, and our annual World Missions Collection joins our diocese and all Catholics of the world together as one community of faith to give generously to aid the Church worldwide.

If you did not receive the bishop’s letter and donation envelope in the mail for the World Missions Collection, we have a few envelopes in the front pew of the church, or you can make online donations on the diocesan website. https://www.dioceseofspokane.org/wmc

Four Angels Foundation Fundraiser

Lenten Theme

The theme for Lent this year is “Journey Together with Hope” – following the theme of hope that Pope Francis has suggested for Lent. See below for parish events during Lent.

Prayer & Soup – 6:00 PM on Fridays

Join us for Prayer & Soup on Fridays during Lent. Stations of the Cross begins at 6:00 PM in the church, and is followed by a meatless soup meal in the parish hall. We are still in need of volunteers, both as readers and to make soup or bring bread each week.  Contact the parish office to sign up if you are interested in helping.

Lenten Communal Penance Service – April 6

The Lenten Communal Penance Service is scheduled for April 6, at 10:30 AM, after the 9:00 AM Mass. Several priests will be available for individual reconciliation at the end of that service.

CRS Rice Bowls

“Rice Bowls” from Catholic Relief Services are available for those who would like to use them during Lent. A Lenten calendar with prayers, stories and actions is included with each “rice bowl.”

Get Reminders About Parish Events

If you would like to receive reminder messages about upcoming parish events, so you don’t hear about events after the fact – we have a new tool to help.  We are using a program called “Remind” that is very easy to sign up for.  Just text saintanncc to 81010 – or follow this link https://www.remind.com/join/saintanncc – and sign up as a “student” to join.

Creation Care Corner

“God said, ‘Let the waters team with living creatures…’ ” Genesis1:20

As we have noted before in this column, Care for God’s Creation is one of seven main points in Catholic Social Teaching.  Coming up in April is Earth Day on April 22, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection.  It is celebrated not only in the U.S., but in many places around the world.  Our local 350 Interfaith, as well as other eco-conscious entities have put together an entire “2025 Spokane Earth Month Calendar of Events”.  We will make that available in the back of the church.  There are several events involving our river: a two-day conference, an outing, and a river clean-up. Please feel free to pick one up.

Over 20 years ago, Maryknoll’s Office for Global Concerns published five principles on “Water and the Community of Life:” Water is its own reality, a dimension of planet Earth, ancient and lifegiving.  Water is the common heritage of all creation as it is an essential dimension of the journey of life.  Water in an ‘endangered species,’ its purity, nurturing power, free-flow availability for all, is under attack.  Water is both a sacred gift and a central symbol is all religious traditions.  Water concerns are front and center across the globe as enlightened peoples awaken to this crisis.

Action:  Saturday April 19, at 10 a.m., Spokane River Cleanup @ High Bridge Park

Education:  Tuesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. “Active Hope for a Livable Future: Divesting from Fossil Fuels”.  Gonzaga University Hemmingson Auditorium. (free)

Thank you to the Creation Care Team for sharing with us!

Franciscan Corner

“Make me a channel of your peace…. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope…” Francis often went to the caves around Assisi for prayer. It was in those solitary places that he could wrestle with himself and with God Where was all this leading? Was he doing it “right?” Did he really hear the voice of God leading him? Each time he questioned himself, he must have heard that small voice saying, “keep going, “ I am with you always”. Spread peace, bring hope, so off he went to another town bringing the message of the Great King—the Gospel of the Lord. Today is Laetare Sunday, the 4th Sunday of Lent. Rejoice! Easter is right around the corner. The church is giving us a “shot in the arm”. Continue to be a pilgrim of hope. Every sliver of hope grows: every smile shared, every kind word spoken, every “cup of water given in His name” brings hope to the person who needs it. Let us continue and do what is ours to do: where there’s despair in life, let us bring hope—in your unique way.

Thank you to Sr. Joanne for sharing these reflections with us!
